Land use planning often translates a voluntary mode of action to develop and transform territories with the ambition of reducing the territorial inequalities, by guaranteeing a balanced distribution of resources, activities, and humans in space. In this perspective, land use planning of Morocco has always been questioned in light of territorial inequalities and the non-harmonious development of geographical spaces.

The regionalization experience in Morocco has reinforced the tendencies of significant territorial, social, and economic disparities between the regions, metropolises, medium and small cities, urban centers, the urban world, and the rural world…

In a context marked by a series of institutional, political, social, technological, environmental, and economic changes, land use planning in Morocco must respond to both classic issues and new orientations defined in the new development model (NMD).

Geomatics comes to offer various tools and methods that might accompany the recasting of land use planning doctrine in its entirety, in order to carry out the transformation axis associated to the planning of “Resilient territories and places where development takes root” advocated by the NMD, the implantation of advanced regionalization, and integrated and sustainable territorial development.

The symposium’s main objective is to put geomatics professions in perspective with regard to the institutional and regulatory reforms that the country has undergone in recent years.

Within the framework of advanced regionalization, the regions are invested with decisive tasks in terms of promoting integrated and sustainable development in accordance with the general and sectoral policies and strategies of the state.

The regional land use planning scheme constitutes a guide and a reference document for stakeholders and public policies interventions in the field of land use planning.
